Janmashtami or Gokulashtami marks the celebration of the birth of Lord Sri Krishna. This festival signifies not merely the birth of a great and divine teacher of mankind but the lightning of the spark of the divine power in every one of us. At JIRS this festival was celebrated with full pomp & splendour on 13th August 2009. The evening started with children experiencing a spectacular fireworks display. Bhajans and Slokas were sung paying homage to the unchallenged hero’s romantic tales.
An Inter House Folk Dance Competition was extraordinary with Lord Krishna’s stories depicted. After the function at Sprintoor, night was still young when all children moved to the "Mutki phodo" area. Painted mud pots were tied high up in a row filled with flower petals. Children both boys & girls arranged themselves as Human Pyramids falling again & again till they succeed in breaking all the Matkas with a stick. The midnight Arathi and swaying of the Jhula of Lord Krishna decorated with colourful flowers by the children, remains a vivid memory in each child’s mind. The function ended with Prasad distribution to all and dispersal to their respective dorms.
