The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced a significant change in the way Mathematics is tested for CBSE Board Exam Class 10 students. Starting from the 2021 academic session, students can now choose between two different levels of Mathematics exams. This move is aimed at reducing the pressure on students, especially those who do not plan to pursue Science or Mathematics for Class X in higher classes.
The CBSE’s new system offers students flexibility by providing two levels of the below two levels of maths (Class 10)::
● Basic Math: For students who do not want to study Mathematics beyond Class 10. This level is easier, with less complex questions.
● Standard Math: For students planning to take up Science, Engineering, or Mathematics for Class X in higher studies. This level will be more challenging and requires a deeper understanding of concepts.
The introduction of the above two levels in the Math subject is a step towards reducing student stress. If a student chooses the Advanced level of Math, that is, the Standard Math but fails, they can opt for Basic Math during the compartment exams. However, students who choose Basic Math at the outset cannot move up to the other option of advanced Math later.
