IGCSE Grade 9 Students Lead Spoken English Classes for Supporting Staff as Part of the Duke of Edinburgh Programme

Bengaluru, November 2025: IGCSE Grade 9 students from JAIN Group’s international wing recently conducted a six-day Spoken English initiative for Sodexo’s supporting staff as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Programme (DofE). Held throughout November, the engagement aimed to strengthen everyday English communication skills while fostering inclusion and mutual respect within the school community.

During the programme, students led interactive sessions featuring role-plays, daily-use vocabulary, conversational activities, and confidence-building exercises. Each session was designed to empower participants to use English more comfortably in their work environments, supporting both personal and professional growth.

Speaking about the initiative, a faculty coordinator remarked, “Our students demonstrated remarkable leadership and empathy throughout the programme. Their ability to connect with the supporting staff and create a safe, encouraging learning space reflects the true spirit of the Duke of Edinburgh Award. This experience allowed them to understand service not as an obligation, but as a shared responsibility towards our community.”

The supporting staff expressed appreciation for the students’ efforts, noting improvements in their ability to communicate with clarity and confidence. The initiative also provided students with first-hand exposure to teaching, teamwork, and cross-cultural communication—key competencies valued within the DofE framework.

The activity concluded with both groups acknowledging the positive impact of collaborative learning. The school aims to build on this success by exploring future student-led community engagement programmes that continue to promote inclusivity and experiential learning.
