FAQs

Q1: Is the 5th class board in CBSE 2025?

A1: No. There are no board exams conducted for class 5 on the CBSE board. Regular examinations are facilitated by CBSE for classes 5, 8, 9, and 11. Students who fail these exams will be provided additional instruction and allowed to retake the exam two months later.

If they do not meet the promotion criteria, they must repeat class 5 or 8. The central government announced this change as part of an amendment to the Right of Children and Free School Education Act 2010 (RTE Act 2010).

Q2: What is the CBSE 5 subject rule?

A2: The CBSE board follows the "Best of Five" rule, where a student’s overall percentage is based on the scores of one language subject, generally English, and the four other subjects in which they score the highest. The marks from the remaining subjects are considered additional and are not included in the calculation of the main percentage.

Q3: Will CBSE pass everyone in 2025?

A3: The CBSE board has not officially changed the passing criteria for class 12 board exams in the current session. Students are expected to score a minimum of 33% marks to pass the exam.
